Draper Scores 2 Championship Goals In 2 Games !

Lincoln City’s Triumph At Ashton Gate Ends 40-Year Wait Against Ex-Boss Skubala.

A trip to Ashton Gate was always going to carry extra spice. The reunion with Michael Skubala — the man who guided the Imps into the Championship — added a massive narrative edge, while facing former players made this first league meeting in over 40. The loyal 607 traveling support were in the away end making a fair amount of noise for a long drive on a Tuesday. Yet just like at Deepdale, Lincoln City produced an absolute masterclass in grit, game management, and defensive bravery to claim a stunning 1-0 away victory. Absorbing massive pressure from a Bristol City side determined to control the match, the Imps dug in, took their big chance, and left Bristol with all three points, it seems like these away 1-0 scrappy win will be what defines our season.

A Tactical 5-3-2 Setup at Ashton Gate
Lincoln lined up in a 5-3-2 setup with George Wickens starting in goal behind a defensive unit of Deji Elerewe, Sonny Bradley, Ryley Towler as the back 3 and Adam Reach and Dom Jefferies the wing backs. Conor McGrandles and Ivan Varfolomeev provided double-pivot protection in midfield. Chiedozie Ogbene, and Ben House operated behind Freddie Draper as the lone striker. Looking across at the opposition team sheet, it was surprising to see Elijah Adebayo starting on the bench for Bristol — a name I know well from his time leading the line for Luton Town in the Premier League. Straight from the opening whistle, the Imps set out to press high. Draper forced an early save inside the opening five minutes after turning over possession high up the pitch, setting the tempo for a fiery, hard-fought contest.

A Defensive Wall Under Heavy Fire
The match statistics paint a clear picture of total home pressure: Bristol City held 67% possession, racked up 18 shots to Lincoln's 9, and swung in a staggering 13 corners. Lorent Tolaj rattled the crossbar from a Rio Cardines corner before hitting the side netting shortly after. Yet, once again, the Imps’ defence from set peices was heroic. Deji Elerewe made vital clearances and interceptions ,he has bided his time well, last season only coming on for the last 15 minutes here and there and now has been given his chance in the starting lineup and has shown he is more than capable at Championship level, Ryley Towler stood tall against his old side, and Sonny Bradley anchored the centre of defense with veteran composure and loud communication. In goal, George Wickens commanded his penalty box expertly under constant aerial bombardment, even picking up a yellow card in the second half for game management. Lincoln picked up five yellow cards on the night as they repeatedly broke up Bristol’s rhythm and frustrated Skubala's side.

Chances at Both Ends & Resilient Defending
Lincoln carved out quality openings of their own despite limited ball possession. In the 28th minute, a well-worked Imps move saw Dom Jefferies pick out Chieo Ogbene in space, though the winger couldn't direct his header on target. As Bristol poured forward late in the second half seeking an equalizer, Gibson Yah had a goal-bound shot blocked inside the box in the 79th minute, while a late header from Lisav Eissat flew over. Deep into stoppage time, that Premier League pedigree came off the bench as Elijah Adebayo knocked the ball down for Dom Ballard, who spun well on the edge of the area but fired agonizingly wide. Winning away from home when under the cosh requires complete discipline, and the squad showed immense sacrifice across the 90 minutes.

Draper Provides The Decisive Moment: 2 in 2 in the Championship!
The defining moment arrived in the 53rd minute. Ben House fought relentlessly to win possession high up the pitch, punishing Rob Dickie's misplaced pass, Ben House played a well weighted ball into the path of Freddie Draper. Cool as you like, Draper slotted a low finish past Sam Tickle to score his second goal in as many Championship matches! After grabbing the winner off the bench at Preston, Draper backed it up with another moment of pure composure as a starter. He bullied Bristol's center-backs all night, ran the channels tirelessly, and showed why he belongs at this level. His strike gave Lincoln something to fight for, and he earned a standing ovation from the traveling Imps when replaced by Rob Street in the 70th minute.

What Comes Next?
Back-to-back 1-0 away victories at Deepdale and Ashton Gate mark a brilliant run for Tom Shaw and Chris Cohen’s side. Taking six points on the road against established opposition proves this team has the steel, organization, and clinical edge required in the Championship. Now we are sitting 8th and in the playoffs, whoa I never thought id be saying that on matchday 7, the squad can build on this momentum we now have to play a very well organized Swansea team at home, they have nearly doubled our goals scored with 11 and we have 6, they sit 2nd but there are 4 teams on 14 points so technically they are joint top so this will be a real test. Let's make some noise for the Imps!
